The Summit which took place at the Sabanci Center on January 15 – 16, 2014, started with the opening speeches from TKYD Chairman Mehmet Gocmen, Turkish Industry and Business Association (TUSIAD) Chairman Muharrem Yilmaz and Capital Markets Board of Turkey (SPK) Chairman Dr.Vahdettin Ertas.
Opening speeches was followed by The 4th Corporate Governance Award Ceremony. Darussafaka Society received a special award by being the first non-governmental organization to receive a Rating Report. Based on the calculations made for seven award categories based on the Corporate Governance Index for the 2013 period; TSKB received the Company with the Highest Corporate Governance Rating Score Award, TAV Airports received the Company with the Second Highest Corporate Governance Rating Score Award, Turkish Petroleum Refineries Co. (TUPRAS) received both the Company with the Third Highest Corporate Governance Rating Score Award and also the Award for the Company with the Highest Rating for the Board of Directors Category, Garanti Yatirim Ortakligi and YapiKredi Bank both received the award for The Company with Highest Increase in Rating Score and Lider Factoring received the Non-Public Company with the Highest Corporate Governance Rating Score Award.
The Summit continued with highly anticipated speeches from Prof. Mervyn E. King, the President of International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) and the Honorary President of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), James Silkenat, the President of American Bar Association and Mats Isaksson, the Head of Corporate Affairs at the OECD. The following panels created a forum for discussion for the esteemed guests and the participants on the state and the future of Corporate Governance in Turkey.
The second day began with the opening remarks by TKYD Chairman Mehmet Gocmen, OECD Corporate Governance Committee Chair and the Director of CONSOB, Italy Marcello Bianchi, the Acting Chair of Capital Markets Board of Turkey and Vice Chair of OECD Corporate Governance Committee Bekir Sitki Safak and the Managing Director and Chairman of the Governance and Markets Practice, Promontory Financial Group and the former Chair of U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Mary Schapiro.
The following panel invited esteemed speakers and guests to discuss the “Financing of Business Investment and Corporate Governance”.
