The “Differences and Similarities of Turkish and EU Banks in terms of Corporate Governance” webinar, which we organized in cooperation with the Corporate Governance Association of Turkey (TKYD) and London-based corporate management consulting firm Nestor Advisors, was held on April 14, 2021 with success. Stilpon Nestor, Chairman of the Board of Nestor Advisors, took part as a speaker at the event. Also at the event, Nestor Advisors Turkey Special Advisor and TKYD Board Member Dr. A panel was also held under the moderation of Burak Koçer with the participation of TKYD Advisory Board Member Aclan Acar and HSBC Bank Board Rapporteur Hüseyin Arslan.
In the webinar, the results of the report that compares the corporate governance practices of Turkey’s and Europe’s largest banks, prepared by TKYD and London-based corporate management consulting firm Nestor Advisors, were discussed. The report, which examines the 9 largest banks in Turkey and the 20 largest banks in Europe, showed that the Turkish banking sector has met the best corporate governance practice standards in force in Europe and the world for the last 10 years. The differences between Turkish banks and European banks were attributed to the regulations, cultural practices in Turkey, and a much more intense ownership structure in Turkish banks compared to Europe.
